Enhancers are important cis-acting DNA regulatory elements and play a key role in gene expression at different developmental stages or in different tissues. At the level of the genome, the identification of enhancer regions are considered a hot and difficult topic in the field of DNA biology. And the large-scale practical application of present methods is limited by the demand for a variety of genomic data. Therefore, more and more computational approaches were developed to solve this problem.
The study on the identification of rice enhancers has great significance to agriculture development. Due to the positions of enhancers relative to their cognate promoters are unpredictable, there are only a few critical enhancers have been identified in plant species. Thus, the development of unified general and effective computational approaches for enhancer identification in plants using the DNA sequence alone is urgent.
